Elimelech
(fl. 12th-11th cent BCE)
   Israelite, husband of Naomi and father of Mahlon and Chilion. Owing to the famine during the time of the Judges, he crossed over from Judah to Moab, where he and his sons died. Following their deaths, his wife Naomi returned to Judah with her daughter-in-law Ruth. (Ruth 1:1-3; 2:1,3; 4:3, 9)
